Post Secondary Students - Debt & Credit Help & Advice
Being a student is an exciting, yet challenging, time. While you're balancing your course schedules, work and personal commitments, tests and assignments, you don't want to end up with a financial failing grade.
One way to ensure that your finances stay on track, and you don't get carried with your new credit card, is with a spending plan. Whether you're using student loans, part time income, savings, scholarships, grants, bursaries or help from family and friends to pay for school, a spending plan will ensure that you've got the money you need when you need it.
If you are a student, the Credit Counselling Society can help you in two ways:
- You can sharpen you money skills by attending a free budgeting webinar.
- If you need to get your finances back on track, then you can make an appointment to speak with one of our Credit & Debt Counsellors (don't let the title intimidate you. They are really just friendly, professional money coaches who help people who are struggling with their debts or budget). We offer free, confidential appointments by telephone or in person.
If you are an instructor or professor, the Credit Counselling Society can help you in two ways:
- Provide you and your colleagues with training on how to recognize signs and symptoms of financial distress in your students and give you resources about how to help them.
- Be a guest speaker in your class and help your students learn basic money management skills and the essentials of credit in Canada.
