Credit Counselling Society’s Scott Hannah Awarded Honorary Doctorate
We are pleased to share that Scott Hannah, President & CEO of the Credit Counselling Society, has been recognized with an Honorary Doctorate from University Canada West.
Explained in a press release issued by the university, Mr. Hannah was selected for this honour because he has helped change thousands of lives as a strong advocate for fair consumer legislation in Canada and often contributes his expertise to government agencies and media across the nation in regards to consumer financial matters.
University Canada West went on to say that Scott Hannah and his team at the non-profit Credit Counselling Society have helped over two hundred thousand Canadians “through education, financial counselling and finding solutions to overcome money and debt challenges. The Credit Counselling Society has received numerous awards and recognition, most recently being voted the BC Winner for the Consumer Choice Award in Business Excellence for 2012.”
Commenting on his experience of being chosen for this honour, Mr. Hannah remarked that he was “surprised and thrilled to have been selected to receive this distinction.” However, upon receiving the award he explained that “in truth, this is a shared award with our whole team of employees and the Board of the Credit Counselling Society. When I stepped up to receive the award, I couldn’t help but think of our whole team of dedicated employees and the 200,000 and growing number of Canadians that we have helped since we opened our doors 16 years ago.”
Mr. Hannah attended the fall convocation ceremony with his wife, Lynne, and upon returning to the office, his team at the Credit Counselling Society joked that they could now call him “The Debt Doctor.” As Mr. Hannah is fond of saying, “We take our work of helping, educating and giving clients hope seriously; we just don’t take ourselves seriously.”
